SMS terms

The text messages this service sends, when each one goes out, how often, and the exact words that stop them. Written from the code that does the sending, so there is nothing on this page the software does not actually do.

Who is texting you

AskMuse sends these messages on behalf of the business you called or booked with. Muse is the receptionist who answers that business's phone; AskMuse is the company that runs her. The business is the one you are dealing with — we are the software in between, and every message says so in as many words: "Sent by AskMuse on behalf of <the business>." When the business and AskMuse are the same party, it says "Sent by AskMuse" once instead of naming one company twice.

Texts arrive from one number, (902) 707-6527, whichever business they are for. We can only text Canadian and US numbers — anything else is not sent to at all.

What we send, and when

This is the complete list. Each one is triggered by something you did — a call, a booking, a reply — and there is no list, no blast and no marketing campaign behind any of them.

How often

There is no fixed number, because nothing here is scheduled — it follows your own calls and bookings. Most people get one or two in their whole dealings with a business: a confirmation when they book, and a reminder the evening before. The rules the software holds itself to are the ones worth knowing:

Message and data rates may apply. We do not charge you anything for these texts; your own mobile plan may.

How to stop

Reply STOP to any message. That is the whole procedure — no account, no phone call, no form. It stops every message from this number, not just the kind you were replying to.

Every word that stops the texts:
English — STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, UNSUB
French — ARRÊT, DÉSABONNER, DÉSINSCRIRE

Capitals do not matter, accents do not matter, and a full stop on the end does not matter: "stop", "STOP." and "Arrêt" all land the same way. You will get one short confirmation back — that one comes from the messaging network itself rather than from us, which is why it arrives even though we have stopped sending.

To start again, reply START or UNSTOP (French: DÉPART).

One word that does something else. CANCEL does not stop your texts — it cancels your appointment, and we will confirm that we have. If you want the messages to stop, the word is STOP.

How to get help

Reply HELP or INFO (French: AIDE) to any message. The answer comes straight back and says who is texting, what the messages are for, how to stop, and where to read this page:

"AskMuse: appointment and follow-up texts for the business you called. Reply STOP to opt out. Help: askmuse.ca/receptionist/sms-terms"

If that is not enough — and one text never is — email info@askmuse.ca or call (902) 707-6527. A person answers both.

Your reply goes to a person

This is not an unmonitored inbox. Write back in your own words and your message is passed to the business you were dealing with — sent to the phone of whoever runs it, and put in front of them in their dashboard so they can answer you in the same thread. We tell you it has been passed on, so you are never left wondering whether anybody read it.

The one case where that cannot happen is when we genuinely cannot tell which business you are writing to — no recent call to a line we answer, and no booking in your name. Rather than guess, we say so and point you at the business to ring. A business can also switch these hand-overs off, and then we say the same thing.

What we do with your number

Your number is used to send you the messages above and to let the business reply. Messages tied to a business are kept so that business can read the conversation; a text we cannot tie to any business is not filed anywhere a business can read. We do not sell your number and we do not hand it to anyone for their own marketing. The full account is in our Privacy Policy, and the agreement behind the service is in the Terms of Service.
